December President’s Letter

Happy Holidays to our favorite club’s members!

While Mother Nature’s snowmakers are slow to produce any local product, our Board has been busy adjusting to our ever-changing lifestyles and preparing for snow season.

First, this should come as no surprise, but we temporarily suspended group social activities in alignment with local guidelines. However, all of this downtime gave our Program Co-Chairs, Bob and Shelly, time to get creative.

Please join us for our First Virtual Happy Hour on December 17th. I heard rumors of some fun and games that might happen during the happy hour. Then on December 19th, our local ski season will open at Trollhaugen followed by January 9th at Welch Village. February challenges our on-ice golfing capabilities with the Bearly Open golf event on White Bear Lake.

We are excited to announce the Ultimate Club Logo shirts for sale! Perhaps you saw the logo first introduced on the Oktoberfest mugs. Or maybe caught a peek on Facebook group “Hootline”. This is not just ANY shirt sale… we are offering 3 styles offered in 3 colors, with both men and women’s sizing. And if you buy 3 or more shirts, we’ll offer you a free club neck warmer (while supplies last).

Order your shirts within the next two weeks! The target is for shirts to be ready before NYE. You’ll provide your info and payment directly to the shop’s website. To distribute shirts, we’ll offer both delivery and pick up options for those of you in the Twin Cities. Inquire for those of you outside the local area. I was already planning to order a baselayer for my skiing days and the pullover zip in 2 colors for my casual days… Then Karen mentioned she likes to wear her club club logo shirt for wearing to the hot tub on trips. What a great idea! I’m in for all 3. Now if I can just get these ski pants to fit again… eh, maybe I’ll just ask Silvia to help me shop for new ones.

Now a little about the upcoming season of skiing. Our trip to Whitefish, MT  is still full steam ahead for the end of January. We are really looking forward to having a spectacular time at this hidden gem in northern Montana! Endless slopes, no lift lines, bluebird days… what more could we dream of? Oh yeah, this darn pandemic to be over. With the airlines and ski resort taking precautions not to spread COVID-19, our club will also recommend practices to ‘Be Respectful’ in alignment with 3M’s Code of Conduct. Trip Leaders Gary and Lorrie, along with Ross as VP of Trips, are doing an amazing job navigating this territory. For those going on the trip, keep watching your inboxes for the latest updates and requests from Gary.

Other good news to ease concerns during this time of uncertainty – Val di Fassa, Italy is officially postponed until 2022. That means, we all have an extra year to learn more Italian language before embracing their culture in 2022. Thank you again to Ross, Cindy, Jason, and Gary for navigating this unexpected territory! And thank you to the participants who are so excited to ski Italy! Watch your inboxes for updates from Ross.

Keep your eye on the website and your inbox for the latest outdoor activities. Future activities include trail hiking/snowshoeing at local parks hosted by Shelly R, Sue M, and Felix L. As well as XC skiing at Lake Elmo Park Reserve hosted by Rick H and Jerry H. Rick suggested the $30 annual parking pass for Lake Elmo.

We encourage everyone to “Know before you go” this season. Be sure to plan your ski adventures in advance. To help you with this process, check out our Resources tab on this website. We list many of the local ski resorts and their websites. Check out Trollhaugen and Welch Village for our upcoming events.

I wish you all a wonderful holiday season. May you and yours be happy and stay healthy.

Happy Holidays!
