President’s Letter – October

As the weather is cooling down, ski season is heating up! It’s hard to believe we are almost to November. As I write this, snow is falling, and ski swaps are happening. Many have shared in our Facebook group “Hootline” that Wild Mountain and Trollhaugen are both open for the season. At our events, you have shared your excitement to try out new skis, boots, and jackets.

On the topic, it’s time to grab your equipment out of storage and head to Bob’s garage on Saturday, Nov 14, for a waxing party. For $20 (member) or $30 (nonmember), you may wax ski equipment, share ‘black pearls’ of wisdom, and chat about upcoming events and trips over some beers.

Speaking of trips, few spots remain if you’d like to join us on the Whitefish trip in January. Meanwhile, we are paying close attention to Italy-related travel for the Val di Fassa trip.

While waiting, join us on Nov 5, for Thirsty Thursday at Cravings Wine Bar in Woodbury. The recent happy hour at Big Wood Brewery in White Bear Lake brought out friendly faces like Mike B, Steve O, Tony H, and John U.

December is taking shape… join us for wreath-making at Shelly’s in early December followed by Thirsty Thursday Meet & Ski nights on Dec 10 (Trollhaugen) and Dec 17 (Welch Village) where you could use the lift ticket won at Membership Drive. Keep an eye on your inbox and the website’s calendar for all of the upcoming social activities.

Members have had a lot of great fun the past month. At Ben & Heather’s backyard Oktoberfest, we drank from custom-made beer mugs (ours to bring home!), devored sausages, and played rousing games of Hammerschlagen.

To continue to keep us well fed, Shelly hosted a backyard chili and pie making (and eating?!) contest with a Warren Miller movie around the bonfire. Congratulations to Cindy G for winning Best Chili (traditional style with beans) and Jason K for Best Pie (banana cream). Oh my… I am hungry. Word has it that this may be a repeat event… next time, maybe a hot dish cook-off?

As always, we appreciate you taking the time to rsvp to these events to make sure everyone is accommodated. We recently heard that the rsvp button doesn’t work well with internet explorer browser, so we suggest viewing our website using Google Chrome or another modern browser.

If you can’t make it to the waxing party or ski swaps, check out our black diamond discount page to take advantage of exclusive offers from local businesses for club members. Want to become a member? For the small fee of $20, you can join us for fun!

See you soon,
Joanne
